During the week of October 19-23, the Counseling Center and Campus Recreation Services will host Love Your Body Week, a series of educational programs and events to help promote healthy lifestyles and positive body image among members of the TU community.
On October 19, the Friends Don’t Let Friends Fat Talk program led by the Body Image Peer Educators will help students recognize how expressing body dissatisfaction through “fat talk” can contribute to negative body image. Stop by the University Union, Room 316, from 1-2 p.m. to be part of this great conversation.
On October 20, Towson’s own Dr. Edith Brotman, professor of Sociology and Charm City Yoga instructor, will lead a free yoga class designed to show the mental, physical, and spiritual benefits of yoga. The class will be in Burdick Hall, Gym 3, from 1-3 p.m.
Registered Dietician, Licensed Nutritionist, and Dietician Debbi Kauffman will host Introduction to Mindful Eating, a presentation about how to end mindless eating by exploring internal and external motivations that influence what, how much, and when people eat. Introduction to Mindful Eating will take place on October 20, from 5-6:30 p.m. in UU 304.
On October 22, the Counseling Center staff will host an interactive forum on the role of the media and culture on body image among women of different skin color and body types at Women of Color Weigh In. Come to the University Union, Room 307, from 4-5 p.m. to participate in the discussion and activities.
To wrap up the week on October 23, Health Science professor and Registered Dietician and Nutritionist Kathy Gould will play the role of nutrition myth buster, exposing some of the common misinformation about nutrition and eating for exercise performance during college. Nutrition for Exercise Performance will be held in Burdick Hall, Room 108, from 1-3 p.m.
