Recently, TU students, faculty and staff have been rendered speechless by the sight of a 6’7 turkey working out in C.R.i.B. fitness center. Like many of us, this bird is trying to get in shape for the holidays. But his motivation runs deeper than a commitment to getting healthy or pure aesthetic vanity. Charles Gobbler, as he has been dubbed by the student staff of Campus Recreation Services (CRS), is working out to save his own life come Thanksgiving season.
Charles Gobbler is the mascot of CRS’ annual 5K Turkey Run, which will take place on Saturday, November 21. The race will start and end on Burdick Field, winding 3.1 miles around the metropolitan campus. As part of a 27-year old tradition, the male and female winners of each age division will win a frozen turkey.
In addition to the 5K, there will also be a 1 Mile Family Fun Walk. The run/walk is open to all TU students, faculty, and staff, as well as members of the Towson community. There is a $5 registration fee for TU affiliates and a $15 registration fee for non-TU affiliates. 100% of the proceeds from this event will be donated to Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation for childhood cancer research.
